NORTH BY NORTHWEST was the eight highest earner of 1959 taking in roughly $200 million in today’s dollars.
It was the fifth biggest hit of Hitchock’s career behind PSYCHO, REAR WINDOW, SPELLBOUND and NOTORIOUS.
PS, OPERATION PETTICOAT also starring Cary Grant was also released in 1959 and beat NORTH BY NORTHWEST at the box office becoming Grant’s biggest hit with roughly $270 million.
