Although I don’t quite understand why it is rated so highly above the rest of Ozu films.. I would rate LATE SPRING above it.
THE SEARCHERS is not racist. The main character is but the film doesn’t endorse or support his action. At the end of the film he leaves his family knowing he is a relic that doesn’t belong.
Yeah, that’s the same teacher who made fun of the kid for saying that THE MATRIX was better than CITIZEN KANE, yet couldn’t articulate why he thought CITIZEN KANE was so good.
I guess I’ll have to watch THE SEARCHERS again.
