CTS Babies: Star Trek V Press Conference Commentary

Posted in Uncategorized by maxhegel on December 21st, 2011

Mike and Max are embarrassed for everyone involved with an ill-conceived disaster of a press conference.  This can be found on the STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER Blu-ray and Special Edition DVD.

You should have also done a commentary on Harve Bennett’s Pitch.

Thanks for listening, crazyman. I remember watching Bennett’s pitch, but I don’t remember anything about it. We’ll look into doing that.

I don’t list commentaries for trailers or short films, and I think this fits in that category, but it was fun to listen to.

Funny commentary, guys. I do have to say, I genuinely felt bad for Shatner when I watched the press conference. Especially when the reporters ask him why folks should go see STV when, hey, “Batman” is in the cineplex! I don’t interpret his reactions as being lost, as in trying to put a brave face on what he knows is not that great a movie. (It has slighly grown in my estimation in the intervening years, but I grant it’s not fantastic.)

Granted, him forgetting (I guess?) Koenig’s name is unforgiveable.

But, on the whole, Shatner knows the film is not the film he wanted to make, and now he has to do this dumb press for it. I usually don’t feel bad for the guy - his ego can take it - but I did this time.

Just discovered you guys via Colin’s “Trek News and Views” podcast, and am looking forward to listening to more!
